6-10 July - GreenCamUz consortium officially launched the Second Training Program at Karabük University, Türkiye.
The Second Training Programme of the GreenCamUz – “Green Campus Initiative: Integrating Sustainability into Higher Education in Uzbekistan” project was held on 6–10 July 2026 at Karabük University, Türkiye.
The five-day programme brought together representatives and experts from partner universities and international institutions to exchange knowledge and experience on sustainable higher education, Green Campus strategies, environmental education, waste management, sustainable curriculum development, and future cooperation.
Opening Ceremony
The programme officially opened with welcome speeches delivered by Mr. Ulugbek Mamadaliev, GreenCamUz Coordinator, representatives of Opole University of Technology and Vilnius Gediminas Technical University, Prof. Dr. Azizbek Ismailov, Rector of Alfraganus University, and Prof. Dr. Fatih Kırışık, Rector of Karabük University. An official photo session was also held.
A Tree Planting Ceremony was organised as part of the opening activities, highlighting the project's commitment to environmental sustainability and the development of greener university campuses.
Green Campus Strategy and Project Activities
The first day also focused on the final version of the Green Campus Strategy, implementation roadmaps, and the monitoring framework. Participants reviewed sample course materials and discussed the development of business and community partnerships, a virtual knowledge-sharing platform, the 1st GreenCamUz Conference, and plans for the third training meeting.
Sustainable Curriculum and Waste Management
The second day focused on recycling and waste management practices and sustainable approaches to curriculum development.
International experts shared experiences in syllabus and curriculum design, covering areas such as Eco Tourism, Nature-based Tourism, Natural Sciences in Primary Education, and Extracurricular Activities in Primary Grades.
The programme also addressed sustainable waste management, recycling technologies and strategies, waste recycling for sustainable campuses, and innovative approaches to converting agricultural waste into useful and biodegradable materials.
Practical Visits and Environmental Technologies
The third day included a visit to the Demir Çelik Institute Laboratory, followed by sessions on best practices in syllabus design, livestock waste management, agricultural wastewater treatment, wastewater reuse, and related sustainability projects.
Participants also visited the KARDEMIR Iron and Steel Factory, providing an opportunity to explore industrial practices and environmental aspects in a real-world setting.
Environmental Toxicology and Risk Management
The fourth day focused on Environmental Toxicology, including its key concepts, principles and multidisciplinary approaches. Discussions also addressed sustainable environmental education, environmental monitoring, risk management, and toxicology governance in Uzbekistan.
Networking and Future Collaboration
The final day was dedicated to networking and future collaboration among project partners and participating experts. A Sustainability Project Design Workshop was also conducted to encourage the development of practical ideas and future sustainability-oriented initiatives.
The Second Training Programme provided an important platform for international knowledge exchange, capacity building, and cooperation. It strengthened collaboration among partner institutions and contributed to the GreenCamUz project's goal of integrating sustainability and green approaches into higher education in Uzbekistan.
